Account and security
Reset a forgotten password, set up two-factor authentication, and sign out.
Forgotten password
Choose Forgot password? on the sign-in page and enter your email address. If an account exists for that address, you receive an email with a link. The link is valid for one hour. Setting a new password signs you out on your other devices.
If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder and request a new link. The page says the same thing whether or not an account exists for the address you entered.
Two-factor authentication
Mentors and administrators must set up two-factor authentication. After you sign in, Distil asks you to:
- Confirm your password.
- Add the setup key shown on screen to your authenticator app.
- Enter the six-digit code the app shows.
From then on, signing in asks for a code from the app after your password.
Other ways to confirm
On the sign-in confirmation step you can also choose:
- Use a passkey. A passkey is a key stored on your device or password manager that you unlock with your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Add one under Passkeys on your account page. Passkeys work on the Distil main site (
distil.ch), not on an organisation's own address, and each Distil environment has its own passkeys. A passkey is used in addition to your password, not instead of it. - Send me a code by email. Distil sends a six-digit code to your verified email address. It is valid for 10 minutes, you have 5 attempts, and you can ask for a new code once a minute. Use it if you lost your phone. Anyone who can read your mailbox can read the code, so protect your email account too.
You need an authenticator app or a passkey first; the email code is a fallback, not a way to set up. Mentors and administrators cannot remove their last second factor. A passkey alone needs a verified email address, so verify your email first or keep your authenticator app.
Sign out
Choose Sign out in the top bar. On a shared computer, sign out when you finish.
